Northern General Hospital, Sheffield
Flora: all the plant life in a given place or time.
The large scale mosaic for the atrium of the new Hadfield Wing was inspired by the theme of ‘seasons and nature’ and Sheffield’s ancient woodland habitats. Design concepts evolved through an extensive consultation process with patients and staff at the hospital, local residents, woodland managers and RSPB field teachers.
Commissioned by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Designed in consultation with Sheppard Robson architects. Funded by ACE, Yorkshire. Photographs by Joanna Kessel and Helen Kitchen.
