Profile

Joanna is an Edinburgh based artist and designer who specialises in making site specific mosaic artworks for public spaces.  She is interested in the jewel-like quality of mosaic and the visually rich and textural surfaces that can be achieved; this combined with her unique style has resulted in her work being well respected, admired and commissioned by many.

Joanna also designs work for a variety of other media, often combining materials.  She liaises closely with industrial partners to produce artworks in, for example, water-jet cut tiles, terrazzo, etched paving, architectural panelling etc.   Her work involves close consultation and a collaborative working process with clients, encouraging dialogue to promote generation of ideas and ownership of a project.  She frequently works as part of a design team with architects, interior designers, landscape architects and construction industries.  Clients include the NHS and Primary Care Trusts, local authorities, education departments, regeneration programmes and housing groups, as well as private clients.

Joanna is an enthusiatic protagonist for the inclusion of visual arts within healthcare facilities.  Her father was Professor of Psychiatry and she became familiar with clinical environments from an early age.  He encouraged Peter Senior to exhibit paintings within the department.  This proved a catalyst for Peter to go on and pioneer the arts in health movement and then become the Director of Arts for Health, for whom Joanna has recently worked with on a commission at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals.
